Balanced, Happy and Free: Behind the Scenes of Founding Juniper & Pine
Finding a skincare line that works for sensitive or combination skin is tough
I’m sure you’ve felt the struggle too. Hours spent trolling the local pharmacy or online stores, trying product after product that all seem to end in the same results. With unhappy skin and an unhappy you. For years, I couldn’t find a skincare brand that worked for my confused skin. I tried everything I could find, and nothing could provide the results I was looking for. They either stripped my skin of all moisture so that it hurt to smile, or made it oily and congested.
My sister (who has sensitive skin) and I would often get together and discuss our skincare problems, what was working, but more often than not what wasn’t. She had just as many issues with trying to find a line that wouldn’t cause a reaction with her skin. If you have sensitive skin you know the feeling. You expect your skin to react to every new product with a breakout, rosacea, or allergic reaction. You religiously scan ingredient lists looking for red flags and are hesitant to try anything new.
Like my sister, I was tired of covering up my skin problems with layers of foundation and blush. Tired of not feeling like I could not go out in public without some sort of “cover” for my face. And tired of not truly loving my skin and my complexion.
I realized that the source of the problem may be in the harsh “results-driven” and chemical-ridden skincare products I was piling onto my skin. I wanted a cleanser that I loved using. That I could use morning and night to make my skin feel 100% clean, balanced and supple at the same time. Most importantly, I wanted it to feel AMAZING and luxurious during and after cleansing, too.
So I set out to formulate a cleanser made with all-natural, luxurious, and organic ingredients that really worked for my skin type AND for my sister’s more sensitive skin, too. And with that, the first product behind Juniper & Pine was founded.
Why all natural, organic, and cruelty-free products are the most important
I wanted to design Juniper & Pine to be for the woman who is, or wants to be, conscientious about what they’re putting on their skin. Because of that, I meticulously worked with formulators to make sure every product was made only with the highest quality, hand-selected natural and organic ingredients.
These ingredients, such as Rosehip Powder, Aloe Vera, and Papaya Seed Oil, were handpicked not only for their efficacy, but also because I loved the natural scent, feel, and experience of using each of them.
And better yet, we don’t even use potentially irritable natural ingredients nor any added (natural or not!) fragrances, either. Just the ingredients necessary to make a gentle, yet highly effective line of multi-tasking skincare essentials.
With the products come to life, the magic started to happen. My face cleared, complexion becoming balanced, silken and soft. My sister had no adverse reaction (in fact, the exact opposite), and we were in love! My skin had never been more balanced and happier, and I knew I had to share my product with the world.
Inspiration behind the name
The name Juniper & Pine has an origin that lies close to my heart. Before my husband was deployed to Iraq for the first time, we decided to go on a little getaway. He was deployed within the same year we were married, so I was facing a deluge of emotions over it.
But our hotel was wonderful, and was filled with the earthy and sweet aroma of pine-scented candles. When I encountered the same scented candles from that hotel shortly after he left, I immediately bought a few, and often had it lit whenever I missed him a lot.
When it came time to name my all-natural skincare brand, it was an easy decision (and juniper paired so seamlessly with pine!)
So with products and name in tow, my brand was ready to share with the world, and I have never looked back.

Needless to say (given my immense love for all animals & nature), we are 100% cruelty-free and do not use any harmful, toxic ingredients that can harm ocean life. Plus, our packaging is also recyclable!
After trying tons of combinations of botanical extracts and oils — all known to have this benefit or that — I’m proud to say that our all-natural and organic products check all the boxes for me + more.
