Skin Nourishing Benefits of Face Mask Powders Over Liquid Masks
You get home from work, your skin tired, dull and feeling oily and congested from the overheated dry office air, presenting under fluorescent lights and your habit of resting your chin on your hands. You need to purify and detox both the mind and skin! Our favorite way to do so? Mixing up a powder face mask in our handcrafted, gold-painted mixing bowl, and settling on the couch with a favorite book and beverage. There’s a peaceful, nurturing quality to mixing your own face mask powders. It forces you to take a moment out of your busy routine, slow down and engage in an activity that’s all about taking care of YOU! Aside from the relaxing ritual, there are other skin-benefiting reasons why powder face masks might rule over their liquid alternatives.
Ingredient Freshness & Efficacy
When you buy a liquid face mask, there will usually be instructions detailing you to use the product within six months to a year of opening. With water or liquids already in the product, the shelf life of these types of face masks are limited. Over time, these ingredients can start to lose their efficacy, grow bacteria, and generally have a shorter shelf life.
With face mask powders, there is increased longevity in the potency and expiration dates of the ingredients. This ensures that the ingredients stay incredibly fresh, and retain their maximum capacity to balance, nourish and boost the skin.
Little Preserving or Synthetic Ingredients
Because face mask powders aren’t already mixed with water, they don’t need a large amount of preserving ingredients in their formulations. With liquid masks, the water or liquid already present in the product provides an environment where bacteria can grow. At Juniper & Pine, because our ROSE VEIL face mask is a dry product, we don’t need any natural or synthetic preservatives. When there is no water or liquid, there is no opportunity for bacteria to grow. In many liquid face masks, you’ll see longer lists of preservatives and synthetic ingredients that prevent the product from spoiling when exposed to air.
Mix It Yourself!
Although it may take a little longer than a traditional liquid mask, with a powder face mask you can mix the texture of the mask yourself. There is a suggested amount of water you should add but ultimately, you can mix as you wish to get the texture you and your skin enjoy the most!
You can even add extra ingredients to powdered masks such as raw apple cider vinegar, greek yogurt or avocado to soothe, renew and hydrate.
Beneficial to Many Skin Types
Clay-based masks are great for oily skin to start, with ingredients like Kaolin clay and Bentonite clay that are great for balancing skin’s oil production without over-drying. But, when you add in plenty of good-for-you, skin-revitalizing and gentle botanical ingredients with them, the powdered face masks become equally effective at hydrating, rebalancing and calming sensitive, tired or dry, skin! Give your skin that dewy glow while detoxing and oil-balancing!
Powdered masks are also great exfoliators, removing dead skin cells, dirt and residue from clogged pores. This is very helpful for those who struggle with uneven skin tone, acne, and post-acne scars.
